The brief
Lawyers at the Federal Court of Justice appear exclusively before its civil senates — an extremely specialised field with a correspondingly demanding audience. The site must not be loud in any way, yet still convey quickly what the firm does and keep its professional content accessible: practice areas, news, twice-yearly case-law newsletters and job openings.
The solution
A calm, typography-led design that lets the content speak for itself, implemented as a TYPO3 installation the firm can maintain itself. Editorial areas such as news and newsletters are built to be filled without technical help — including bilingual editing. Contact enquiries and newsletter sign-ups flow into the firm’s CRM in a structured way rather than into a shared inbox.
Key pieces
Restraint as a design principle
Plenty of white space, clear typography, no effects for their own sake. Here credibility comes from reduction, not decoration.
TYPO3 as an editorial tool
The content elements are tailored to the firm’s actual needs, not to a theoretical toolkit. Editors only see what they genuinely need.
An archive of more than 1,100 decisions
Since 2020 the case-law archive has continuously tracked the guiding decisions of the civil senates — by now well over a thousand entries, each linked individually to the Federal Court of Justice and indexed by senate and year. Keeping that volume usable on a single page is above all a question of structure and loading behaviour.
Newsletter via Mailchimp
The summaries of Federal Court case law go out through a Mailchimp integration: sign-up, confirmation and management run through the website in a privacy-compliant way, with nobody maintaining recipient lists by hand.
Migration and ongoing operation
Server migration, version management and maintenance are mine as well. For a firm whose clients read the website as a calling card, availability is not a side issue.
Maintained in two languages
German and English are both fully maintained, so that international clients and corresponding counsel can assess the firm as well.
