The brief
OXXID designs analytical instruments, charging stations, fuel cells and measurement technology — products you have to see to understand. Almost thirty references from very different industries had to be presented so that each project works on its own while the overall range stays graspable at a glance. For a design studio there is an added demand: the website is itself a piece of evidence.
The solution
An image-led portfolio architecture that gives the product photography the room it needs while the typography holds back. Every project follows a fixed system with a project code and short description, so the overview stays readable as the number grows. Built in TYPO3 so the studio can add new work itself; enquiries are passed on in a structured way via the CRM integration.
Key pieces
Image first
The grid is built to show product photography large and calm — without the page drowning in loading time across thirty projects.
A system, not a pile
Project code, product name, category: every reference follows the same structure. That is what makes the range from semiconductor technology to body scanners manageable in the first place.
Custom TYPO3 modules, not a toolkit
For managing the portfolio I built custom content elements and backend modules that know exactly the fields a product design studio needs: project code, product name, category, image sequence. Editors maintain projects rather than text blocks — and cannot break the grid.
Migration, updates, operation
Server migration, TYPO3 version upgrades and ongoing maintenance are part of the deal. A site that grows over years needs someone who handles the updates before they turn into a problem.
Bilingual presence
German and English maintained in parallel, because the studio’s clients range from Munich to international industrial groups.
